Description

The Outlander Season 2 tour otherwise known as the Vivent Les Frasers tour is a brilliant way to see some of the fantastic locations used for filming Season 2 of the hit Stars TV Show Outlander. It includes The Drummond Castle Gardens (Gardens of Versailles), Hopetoun House (Paris Bedrooms), Linlithgow Palace (Wentworth Prison) and Callendar House (Where the Duke of Sandringham loses his head in Season 2).

The tour has two meeting points, one at Glasgow and the other at Dalmeny Train Station near Edinburgh.

The tour lasts around 8 to 10 hours and is a must for any visitor whether you are a fan of the show or not.

You will meet the tour at 8.45am outside the Parish Halls buildings on 266 George Street in Glasgow. We will then make our way to Dalmeny Train Station to pick up our Edinburgh guests for 10 am.

The first stop on the trip, Linlithgow Palace, is only a short drive away from the train station. The Palace, built by James the 1st of Scotland, became a favourite Royal Stuart Palace until James 6th of Scotland whose mother, Mary Queen of Scots was born at the Palace in 1542. For Outlander filming, it played the part of Wentworth Prison. We will stay here for 1 hour.

The next stop on the journey is the nearby Hopetoun House, used for the filming of many of the French scenes, in particular, the Paris bedrooms in Season 2 and the Duke of Sandringham's residence in Season 1. We stay here for 1 hour and a half including time to have some lunch and the excellent Stables Tearoom onsite. Please note that the tour price does not include lunch.

Afterwards, we make the trip to Callendar House in Falkirk. The house is a council run property and has a vast array of exhibitions and educational facilities. We visit just for the kitchen which was the filming location where the Duke of Sandringham loses his head in Season 2. Aside from the Outlander connection, there are costumed guides on hand to explain how the kitchen once was in the 18th and 19th centuries. We will only visit for approximately 30 minutes.

Our last stop on the day is at the Drummond Castle Estate where you can visit the gardens, made famous in Outlander as the gardens of Versailles. The gardens are beautiful, and for anyone interested in gardening, flowers and plants, it is a fabulous experience, especially if the weather is favourable. We will stay here for an hour.

We then make our way back to Dalmeny Train Station and Glasgow, arriving at around 5 pm and 6.30 pm respectively (traffic depending)
